about

The changing landscape of cyberspace has ensured independent labels can now claim their stake within the worldwide drum & bass market. One imprint which is continuing to do this is Ignescent Recordings, who’ve used 2017 to expand their fan base into the genre’s widest reaches with every consecutive release they’ve exposed to its audience.

And once again they’ve proven how ingrained they’ve become within the genre’s culture; their eye for talent is far ranging, with roots based across the European circuits and beyond. This can be seen through the signing of Russian producer Ozma’s next single, adding yet another international dimension to an already impressive back catalogue of sounds. For a producer whose only just beginning to meet the stepping stones of an ascending career, this forthcoming single on Ignescent is an inspiring feat. However, what else can you expect from an imprint who has time and time again demonstrated their impeccable A&R standards?

Both tracks ‘Essential’ and ‘Robot Story’ draw on influences Ozma has extracted from the Russian drum & bass microcosm. Well known as a hotbed for the 174bpm genre, Russia has continued to breed producers of the same calibre as Ozma. First track ‘Essential’ is a testament to this. The track is intimidating unapologetic, building gradually on waves of quickly firing beats and pipe instrumentals which shake beneath the mix. The track surges with power between old-school breaks, which unexpectedly cut their way through its composition. Ozma combines a range of different production styles to roll out ‘Essential’, a track which doesn’t stick to any paradigms set up before its release.

‘Robot Story’ sets a similar scene, shifting through layers of pounding drums to bring you yet another heavyhitting addition to Ozma’s discography. It’s just as aggressive as its predecessor but is more lumbering in its delivery, biting harder with every stab of bass. Ozma has raised the bar and with Ignescent as his platform it’s only looking to be taken up yet another notch in the following months. And this single is only just the beginning; appealing to a range of different tastes, Ozma’s biting allure is undeniable.
