about

What labels like Ignescent are renowned for is their diversity. Independents have remained a pivotal part of not just the music scene, but the drum & bass world as a whole. And the forthcoming single on Ignescent demonstrates exactly that – a musicality and heaviness which stretches across their entire discography. After releasing a plethora of stabbing, hard-hitting riddims, they return with a track which follows a deeper path, one stretching into the subterranean levels of drum & basses darkest oceans. Alongside their roster, Ignescent Recordings are taking over, with three brand new tracks which exemplify exactly what both imprint and artists stand for.

Kije, Black Barrel and ChaseR join forces for the 16th addition to Ignescent’s discography, helping to once again push forward the label’s intimidating level of output. Your first introduction is through Kije’s ‘Microprocess’, a minimal, crushing track that swoops between different sound layers with every cascading break. Russian producer Kije takes you into the genre’s filthier waters, submerging you with every crunch of bass and filtered loops of fluctuating beat patterns.

Up next, Black Barrel takes the reins, with ‘Neuromancer’ creating a clever play on words which transfers into his devastating set of sounds. With smashing drums and a bassline which cuts further and further into the mix, Black Barrel is unafraid to break the mould and creates a record that pedestals the reason why Ignescent pulled him into their roster. Its vibe is just as devastating as its predecessor but its execution adds an unbridled diversity to the EP’s track listing.

And finally, ChaseR joins the chaos with ‘Deep Waters’. The track chops and changes between the darker sounds which have made the Ignescent discography so notorious and the moodier ranges which epitomise the EP’s ingenuity. ‘Deep Waters’ is slick and unforgiving, proving that once again Russia is a microcosm for the realms of drum & bass. It also shows the A&R scope which Ignescent has at their disposal; time and time again they demonstrate how they’re able to tap into a market which stretches across continents. And it’s this showcase which presents the many reasons why Ignescent Recordings have risen into notoriety over recent months.
