about

Russia has always stood as a microcosm for the drum & bass scene and ChaseR demonstrates that fact. The newcomer has been releasing a wide range of music on labels across the genre and this time he's made himself at home amongst the roster of Ignescent Recordings. Ignescent have also prided themselves on pushing the most forthcoming sounds the 174bpm has to offer and ChaseR has been heralded as a golden egg for the imprint. Following his last EP on the label, ChaseR and Ignescent only further demonstrate why he's becoming such a resounding name amongst listeners. The heat around the producer is beginning to get even warmer and ‘Neuronoir' represents the boiling point.

First track ‘Imprint' moves forward with spacey atmospherics and edging beats. You're pulled bit by bit into ChaseR's rabid sound, pumped up by his grating bass and clicking bassline. Be careful not to catch yourself on its jagged edges, as distorted vocal loops take you even deeper into the mix.

‘Mecha' comes next, with loftier stabs and a crackling bassline underneath. Clattering drums help to underpin the composition before it drops into a punching layer of kick. ChaseR shows his most damaging side, never faltering in his unapologetic, aggressive production standard.

On the EP's second half, ‘Neuronoir' crashes out with an impressive force. A more subtle, creeping number it adds layer upon layer and its energy holds you down beneath misty depths. ChaseR establishes another side of his musical capabilities, as the track then breaks down unexpectantly with a lighter synth pattern. Laying itself down as a stand out on the EP, ‘Neuronoir' flexes ChaseR's full repertoire.

And finally comes ‘Circumzenithal Arc', a more archaic snare orientated roller that changes between kicking hi-hats and skittering cowbell. ChaseR certainly throws cut after cut of sonic delight, rolling out with a military-like precision in his delivery.

This EP is another stepping stone in his growth, proving that this year will be the year the spotlight falls onto the upcoming artists who've been pillars of the underground for quite some time now. And this EP proves ChaseR remains as one of the most exciting prospects.
